Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Work with Four HR-Approved Ideas!

As Valentine's Day approaches, I'm making sure my best heart socks are clean and my favorite red blouse is pressed and ready so I can adequately express my love for a day of love. I'll be at work for most of that day this year, so I'm also thinking about the best ways to celebrate without encroaching on my coworkers' personal space. Air hugs only, Allison. Air hugs.

I do really love my coworkers, though, so if I can't give everyone a big ol' squeeze, how can I appropriately show them some affection? Here's what I've come up wiValentines Dayth…

Be the Nut in Their Box of Chocolates. I don't know exactly what this means, but let's just say, sometimes surprises are good. As long as you don't have food allergies, anyway! Why not surprise your coworkers with a special treat? The best treats in our office come from Kimberly, so I recommend checking out her Pinterest board for some tasty ideas.

Be a Poet. Not everyone can write a limerick about anyone and anything on a moment's notice—it is a special gift I have—but why not try your hand at a simple rhyme dedicated to your favorite coworker. If you get stuck, consult one of my favorite tools, RhymeZone, which should help you find more than one word that rhymes with heart!

Be a Not-So-Secret Admirer. Valentine's Day is a perfect time to tell the people around you that you like being around them! Write a sincere note of appreciation to each of your teammates—maybe something like: “I love working with you because…”. Or, send a free ePraise to put a little love in their inboxes.

Be Nice. We're in the midst of Radom Acts of Kindness Week (well timed, eh?), so think about the types of unexpected deeds you can perform to brighten people's days. Bring a team member a cup of coffee (or tea, or cucumber water, or coconut milk), brush the snow off a coworker's car (yep, it's still snowing!), or pick up lunch for someone who's having a busy day. You get the idea. Or, if you don't, we have a Random Acts of Kindness eBook you can download for free to get inspired!

However you celebrate Valentine's Day at Work, remember to keep it simple, sincere, and, ideally, just out of arm's reach!
