Why You Should Relax at Work Every Day (and how to do it)

Mondays aren't often described as "pleasant" or "easy-breezy."  In fact, if your Monday morning has looked anything like mine, you would have spilled your coffee on your dry-clean-only shirt and tripped up the stairs all before 10:30 AM.  But seeing as today is National Relaxation Day, it's time to sprinkle a little Zen in the start to the week.

In any job, it can be easy to become paralyzed by upcoming deadlines, and overwhelmed by your seemingly endless to-do list. But even on your busiest days, take five to ten minutes to decompress with these tips!

Create a "No Stress Allowed" Zone: Whether it's in the large bathroom stall, in your car, or just outside the entryway of your office, find a space where you can just step away from the stress and tension that surrounds your desk.

Take a Quick Walk:  When you're starting to feel like you may lose your head, step away from your workspace and take a quick 5-minute walk around the block.  Some much-needed alone time and exercise will refresh your mind and relax your body.

Take Deep Breaths: Find refreshment and rejuvenation with a few deep breaths.  Close your eyes and for a minute or two, and focus only on the air filling your lungs. Concentrate on deeply inhaling and exhaling through your nose while sitting up as straight as you possibly can.

Organize and Clean: Staring at piles of paper and empty to-go coffee cups isn't doing any good for your productivity or overall mood.  Take a few minutes to declutter your workspace and just enjoy seeing the surface of your beautiful desk!
