Posts by Allison

Allison is currently living out the elaborate fantasy she described to her now-former staff and colleagues in early 2001. With a hearty dose of courage and absolutely no plan of action, she abruptly left her middle-management job to become a writer—and today she is doing just that in her role as Baudville's Senior Content Writer. She's here to tell you everything she's learned in her 20-years+ professional life, plus a lot more. She's wordy like that!

Our Newest Free Download is Just in Time for World Kindness Day!

World Kindness Day is celebrated November 13 every year, and the next one is right around the corner. We've been feeling a lot of love here at Baudville lately, so the idea of extending it a little bit longer has been on everyone's minds.

In that spirit
, we decided to create our own act of kindness by designing a free download for you for World Kindness Day. The idea is to help your organization promote kindness—and, in turn, offer your team members a feel-good moment of good ol' goodwill.

Sound like work? No, way; being kind is way easier than you think! I know this because it took me only a short time to come up with 12 simple, low-cost & no-cost missions that you and your team can carry out—just like that! They're so easy to do, we recommend you do them over and over. Or even take more than one. Or take one for every day of the week!

The great thing about this undertaking is that you can make it as ambitious (or not) as you want. For example:

Option 1
Download, print copies, post in public areas, and publicize to everyone in the company. Then sit back and watch the kindness unfold.

Option 2
Add to Option 1 the opportunity to earn casual days for every task fulfilled. Once the mission is accomplished, participants just turn in their slips to their manager or HR to redeem them.

Option 3
Add to Option 2 a matched donation. Choose a charity or organization you want your proceeds to go to, then, for every mission redeemed, assign a dollar value that your company will contribute to that chosen beneficiary.

Option 4
You could be the Grand Poobah of Kindness and try all 75 ideas in our free Random Acts of Kindness eBook.

How ever you decide to use this new, free download, make sure to promote it! The more your team members know about it—and all the good that can come from it—the more participation you'll have.

Now, wasn't that easy? And, wow, doesn't it feel good?!

By the way, we'll be using this download internally here at the 'ville. Stay tuned to find out which option we chose. And, by all means, share with us if you used this free download and what you did with it at your organization. We'd LOVE to hear it!

Celebrating Halloween in Your Workplace: Costumes and Pumpkins and Kids…Oh, My!

As you might guess, Halloween is a big event at the 'ville. Though we don't necessarily need a reason to be weird and silly around here, having one does definitely bring it out the beast in us.

Every year, we can always count on costumes and treats, but there's usually something extra brewing, too. Want to know how we scare up some fun "Booville" style? Try these ideas!

Host a Themed Costume Contest.

Anyone can have a costume contest, but give it a theme and you'll encourage even more participation—especially for those who have trouble coming up with ideas. Some of our favorites? Super Heroes, Rock Stars, Famous Mascots, Star Wars, and Movie Characters are all themes that have oodles of options. Whichever you decide, make sure to take pictures so the costumes can be seen by everyone and a winner can be chosen by popular vote.
Bring in the Kids for Trick-or-Treating.

More and more, parents are looking for safe and trustworthy alternatives to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating. Why not do your working parents a favor and host one at your workplace? At Baudville, we always set aside a little time in the afternoon to hand out treats to visiting kids. Doing it later in the day ensures that school-aged kids can come, as well as the little ones; plus, it helps to maintain some productivity for our day. And, the kids getting to see the cool place where their parents work is a treat in itself!
Organize a Pumpkin Carving Contest.

Or, if the idea of sharp instruments being wielded in your workplace is just too frightening, have a decorating contest instead. Last time we did this, we put together several groups mixed with members of different departments, handed over the knives and spoons, and watched the madness unfold. Finished pumpkins were put on display and the crazy creation with the most votes won its creators a prize.
Share Healthy Recipes.

Here's a new one, owed to being a responsible wellness advocate—or attempting to be one, anyway! Last week, our visiting fitness guru hooked us up with some healthy alternatives to candy bars: vegan granola bars that are remarkably close to their questionable counterparts. If you just turned up your nose, then turn it right back down. These bars are downright surreptitious in their delicious and nutritious-ness! Check out her Pinterest page to see those recipes and more.
However you decide to celebrate Halloween in your workplace, don't be afraid to have a little fun!
