October 26, 2013 is National Make a Difference Day – Here’s 5 Ideas to Get You Started!

For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Millions of people join together on this day each year with one common goal: to improve the lives of others. >

Thanks to
Newman's Own, you have the chance to win one of thirteen $10,000 grants to support your community, based on your Make a Difference Day event!

If you don't have anything planned yet, don't worry! Here are 5 ideas to get you started for National Make a Difference Day 2013!

1. Work Together As a Team. As we have found in
our latest community service endeavor at Baudville, serving together as a team not only feels good, it builds camaraderie and bonds that would never come out of our day-to-day work. So gather your team, decide on a cause, and get out there and make a difference together!

2. Find Your Common Cause. Perhaps your workplace is already connected with an organization that could use your help. Or, perhaps someone in your organization has fallen on hard times – or one of their family members has. Get the word out that you're looking for ways to serve in your community. It could be something as common as serving in a local food pantry, cleaning up a local park, or doing some home improvements for a family in need.

3. Spread the Word! You may only have a couple of team members ready to get out there and pound the pavement with you – don't let that kill your mojo. Invite family members, friends, and co-workers from other departments to give their time and talents with you!
Order t-shirts to build your sense of team and act as a keepsake from the event. Our "Making a Difference, It's What I Do" team shirts would be perfect!

4. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate. As the team leader, it's up to you to make sure everyone is informed. For first-time volunteers, it will probably be nerve-wracking leading up to the day. What can they expect? Are they ready? What should they bring? What SHOULDN'T they bring? Will they be uncomfortable? Will they offend someone? What should they wear? Should they bring something to eat and drink or will it be provided? How long will it last? Can they bring a friend, or their kids? Try to answer as many of these questions beforehand so your volunteers can put their minds at ease.

5. Have a Great Time & Take Pictures! You will have a great time together as a team – that's a guarantee. Document it with photos, do a few interviews of your volunteers, and the community you're serving, and after you're all done, talk about it. As much as you can. It will make you smile, and it will make you proud. Then start planning a time to do it again. Don't wait until next year – your heart, your team, and your community will thank you.

What are you doing for
National Make a Difference Day 2013? Share your plans with us and then share your post-event pictures and stories – we'd love to hear about it!

Adventures in Daily Recognition: Getting to Know the Baudville Team!

Baudville is no ordinary place to work – we drop our executives into dunk tanks, pour our hearts into philanthropic ventures together, and wear jeans for a good cause. For these reasons, our team members are no plain Janes or even Stevens either – they're super stellar rock stars! Get to know them one-by-one and we're certain you'll agree.

Meet Denise: Resident Datahead, Figure Skating Queen, and World Traveler
What do you do here at Baudville?
I am the Customer Acquisition Manager. My main responsibility is determining what non-customers (prospects) to send catalogs to for each of our campaigns. Aside from that I do a lot of analysis on different industries, product categories and, of course, our own marketing efforts.

What is something that none of your co-workers know about you?
Don't laugh too hard, I was in the Miss Pre-Teen Michigan Pageant when I was 11. Absolutely shocking.

What was your favorite recognition moment here at the Ville?
My favorite recognition moment at the 'Ville is my anniversary. It's nice to be recognized for my loyalty and dedication to the 'Ville. I enjoy having lunch with my manager, the
personalized card and the token of appreciation isn't hard to take either.

Who inspires you?
The kids in my skating club. They amaze me both as figure skaters and as people. I'm impressed with how, during their tumultuous teen years, they handle themselves with grace in a sport that is not very forgiving. Their work ethic is impressive and every time I am with them I want to be a good role model. They continually inspire me in my own skating and in life.

What's your favorite app and why?
Oh my goodness, there are so many to choose from. Let's see, it is football season and baseball playoffs so right now I'll say theScore is my favorite app. I love that I can look up just about any sport, any game and get results, standings, stats and play-by-play commentary.

What Smart Saying best represents you?
I have mad skills

Does all of this sound like fun to you? Check out our current openings here !

Five Ideas for National Physician's Assistant Week – October 6-12, 2013

The first class of Physician's Assistants graduated from Duke University on October 6, 1967. Since that time, the week of October 6th has been set aside as a time to pause, celebrate, and appreciate the invaluable asset that Physician Assistants are to Physicians and General Practitioners.

So who are PAs, and what do they do? PAs practice medicine under the direction of Physicians and Surgeons. Their formal training allows them to examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and provide treatment. Busy physicians and surgeons rely on their PAs for help with the ins and outs of daily medical practice. PAs save the day time and time again, so let's celebrate their hard work!

Here are 5 great ideas for celebrating National Physician's Assistant Week!

1. Spread the word!
ow awesome would it be if the PAs in your office were appreciated not only by the Docs, but also by the patients? Hang posters or signs all around your office celebrating PA Week and leave baskets of
Pocket Praise by each poster to encourage on-the-spot, sincere appreciation from Docs, staff, and patients alike!

2. Send the surprise home!
National PA Week may be a time when your PAs expect to get some love in the office. Why not surprise them (and their family) with a gift delivered straight to their door?! Try sending a nice bouquet of flowers to their home, or mail a
personal greeting card with a gift card to a nice restaurant or tickets to the local theatre that they can enjoy with their loved ones.

3. Start the day off right.
Show your appreciation for your hard-working PAs by catering a morning breakfast buffet. Bring in a local chef to set up a build-your-own omelet station, offer fresh fruit, and play barista for the morning preparing
lattes, cappuccinos, and more!

4. Theme it!
If you plan to celebrate all week long, start your celebration off with a theme to make each day's events easier to execute. Check out all of our
healthcare-related themes and build raffles, scavenger hunts, team events, and recognition moments around your favorite one!

5. Be sincere.
The #1 recognition faux paus we see time and time again, is lack of sincerity. When giving your appreciation, even if in a casual setting, prepare your message, call out each staff member whether in
a hand-written note or a verbal thank you with a personal thought of why you appreciate their work. Above all else, this is the cherry on the top, the icing on the cake, and the one thing that can make or break the power of recognition in your office. 5 Low-Cost Ideas for Customer Service Week Events

Customer Service Week is October 5-9, 2015. Are you low on funding for the upcoming celebration? Have no fear! Here are 5 low-cost ideas to make sure your Customer Service Week event is a hit!

1. Get out your trusty scissors and start crafting some fun workplace decorations.
Make them feel like they've hit the red carpet by posting stars in the hallways, on the doors, and in the offices. Pretend you're the paparazzi and take photos of your team to post with celebrity-style captions.

2. Put the work in your team's hands.
Assign each member of your sales, marketing, accounting, operations, or IT team a customer service rep. Give them a card to write and sign and a candy bar. Ask them to hand-deliver it to their assigned rep during
Customer Service Week.

3. Bring on the pot luck!
Have the rest of the staff "cater" a lunch for your customer service team. Try to get a few team members to dress up to serve them lunch!

4. Take 25.
25 minutes is all it takes to get outside and enjoy a little team time. Set up yard games, host a beanbag tournament, or play HORSE at a local park – even if it's just 25 minutes!

5. Email trivia contest.
Stuck at your desk? No problem. Every 2 hours send a trivia question to the team – make it fun and memorable (perhaps some customer service team tidbits and statistics?) – and hand out prizes to the winners!
