I just learned a new buzzword, and while we could all do with a lot less office jargon, this is one that should catch on—and it has nothing to do with silos, low hanging fruit, or bandwidth. Thank goodness! The word is feedforward: someone’s clever re-thinking of the word feedback. Why am I so excited about it?

This year Baudville has been named one of 101’s Best and Brightest companies to work for. This is our eighth year in a row! (Woo!) But what exactly makes us the best and the brightest? Is it our fun, light-hearted attitude? Or our work-life balance? Maybe our Ping-Pong table? I believe all of these things factor into us being one of the greatest companies in West Michigan… But what else makes a company bright?

I just looked at the forecast for this week, and while we Michiganders can’t trust the weather report unless we’re looking out the window while it’s happening, it doesn’t look promising for this week’s Recess at Work activities. Oh, well. Just like we did in grade school when the skies turned inclement we will have to find some mischief to get into indoors!

 This is a little embarrassing, but, since it happened several years ago, I think I can claim a statute of limitations on it. It was during a holiday party, and we were at the point in the evening when our leadership was announcing our year-end award winners. I felt I was having a banner year, and was more than half expecting to be recognized for it. As the speaker described the contributions and achievements of the soon-to-be awardee, I became more confident that within moments I would be up there shaking hands and posing for photos. Maybe a speech? No, that would be too much. I was so sure, my butt was about two inches out of my chair in anticipation that I would need to stand. Any minute.
