Thank a Social Worker During National School Social Work Week!

I follow this writer named James Altucher. He has a lot of crazy, radical ideas that, being a sometimes crazy, radical person myself, I can appreciate. I don't always subscribe to what he's pitching, but he still never fails to make me think. Though I could not find any evidence on the interwebs, he recently claimed the existence of a flash holiday called "What Would You Do If You Could Call Your 15-year-old Self" Day. Hmmmm…

It's Back-to-School Time! Tips for Starting Your Year Off Right!

It's about that time... back to school. While my kids are complaining about heading back to class, I'm rejoicing that we're getting back into a routine! It's quite the paradox – I can't wait for school to get out for the summer and then 6 weeks later I am eagerly awaiting the first day of school. Any other moms with me? I know I can't be alone in this.

My other secret? I love to shop. And back to school means back-to-school shopping! Is there anything better than a new back pack, a fresh set of markers, clean folders, and blank notebooks? Absolutely not! I love it all. I love looking at the new styles and trends. The fluorescents are back in style and I couldn't be happier! My boys don't get nearly as excited as they should about squeaky clean new shoes, bold markers, classic markers, or scented pens.

You know who does share my love of new school supplies?
TEACHERS.

Teachers usually supply a list of classroom needs at the beginning of the year and I love to supply a few extra items for the room, or a gift certificate to the local office supplies store. I like to put the supplies in a
Teacher's Rock tote bag , or the gift card in a travel mug as a nice welcome back to school gift for my kid's teachers.

Back to school also means back to...LUNCHES. Now this is a part of school that I HATE. I dread making lunches. To add a little pep to my step in regards to school lunches, I like to purchase a pack of
Peel & Stick Notes at the beginning of the year. These make adding quick little notes to my kids' lunches fun and easy! I once found one of my notes taped in my son's desk – so precious and so worth the time and money spent!

What are your favorite back-to-school tips? Do you love it or dread it? Share your thoughts and ideas with me! I'd love to hear them.

As a team member since 2005, Falon has worn just about every hat the 'ville has to offer. She's seen both sides of working life — as an employee and as a manager — so if it sounds like she knows what she's talking about, we're pretty sure that's why. When she's not juggling between the IDville and Baudville brands, she's been known to whip up a mean diorama - just like that!

The End of the School Year is Near!

No more pencils, no more books…no more lunches, I'm off the hook! My oldest son has 2 days left of school and while I am so excited not to have to add 'pack lunch', 'check homework folder', or 'remember backpack' to my nightly to-do list, this time of year is also a great time for reflection and appreciation.

I remember the first day of school like it was yesterday, sending my little guy off on the bus for the very first time for all-day, every day Kindergarten. As he jumped off the bus at school, the principal was there to give each child a high 5 and welcome them to their first big day!

The teachers made school and learning fun, easing their nerves and giving each child newfound confidence for a lifetime of learning.

New friendships blossomed and after-school play dates were penciled in, not only adding to my son's little buddies, but adding some great new friends to my circle, as well.

The Christmas Program featured my younger son, the donkey, who wouldn't keep his hat on or stay in his designated place for the show.

The Spring Program was equally entertaining with singing, dancing, and again my younger son stealing the show by nearly dropping his pants {this kid is a wild card, if you can't tell…}

And as graduation nears, I am sure there will be tears as our precious little Kindergartener makes the step into a GRADE – 1st Grade (it's a big deal when you're six years old).

Throughout every step of the school year, the teachers, the librarians, the administrative staff, the principal, the bus drivers, and the classroom volunteers have all made an impact on my little guys. They've learned colors and numbers, addition and subtraction, reading and writing… Spanish and Music… Art and PE... they've also learned about consequences and forgiveness through the love and guidance of their teachers. Every teacher has made a difference.

Take time to thank them for impacting your little ones in such a big way.

How will you recognize your child's teacher? Even the smallest gesture will
brighten their day!

It's time to thank our teachers. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10, 2013.

Aside from my job at Baudville, I also work 24/7 as a mother of three little boys. My oldest is in kindergarten, my middle is in preschool, and my little one is just a year old. The oldest started school just last year so it was my first go-round with teachers from a parent's perspective.
