More reports are coming out daily, filling us in on just how bad sitting is for us. So far, it has been discovered that sitting can raise the risk of disability and cause obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. If you haven't heard the phrase "sitting is the new smoking," you are behind the times.

I'm one of those people who sleeps with my smartphone inches away from my head. I have a good excuse: we did away with our standard shouty alarm clock years ago in favor of waking to a chirping crickets ringtone—a lovely, graceful way to greet the day.

This week – October 6-10, 2014 – is Customer Service Week! We love celebrating everyone in our company during this time (as we believe that it takes the hard work off all of team members to create a great customer experience) and we usually have a little fun in the process!

This morning I walked in to some great signs all over the building honoring the occasion and hinting at what this week's theme would be all about – Keep Calm and Celebrate Customer Service Week. Each department was given a basket of light-hearted, fun goodies to break up the day (think whoopee cushions, candy, puzzles, and more) and keep us calm. One of our meeting rooms was turned into a relaxation room – filled with candles, dark chocolate, and a soothing waterfall projected onto the wall. I will definitely be utilizing that today!

It's why we got involved in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and why every person who achieves a year of perfect attendance gets to match their monetary award with a charity of their choice. There are also our relationships with D.A. Blodgett - St. John's Home, Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding, and Gilda's Club Grand Rapids that help support our charitable mission to improve the lives of children. And, every other year, we also raise funds for either breast cancer or prostate cancer awareness.
