For many years, in high school and in college, I waited tables. Although, I made many friendships along the way, met a lot of great people and made some great tips – it definitely wasn’t the easiest job I have ever had.

A wise man once said "My Fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you – ask what can you do for your country." If you know your American history, you know that was part of John F. Kennedy's famous inaugural address, delivered on January 20, 1961.

When I sat down to compile my thoughts on Memorial Day, I couldn't help but think of the start of summer, not having to work on Monday, boating on the lake, parades and so much more! But then I had to remind myself exactly what this day is about. It is to remember those who have given their lives while in the military. I haven't personally been affected, but I have many friends and relatives who have served or are currently serving in the military, and I can't imagine losing any one of them!

May 18-24, 2014 is National EMS Week. Many of us hope that we will never have the chance to interact with an EMS professional. These first responders bear witness to many, many dangerous and downright scary situations day after day. It's their job to bring the calm to the storm with efficiency, intelligence, kindness, and grace. Talk about tough! 

I'd love to tell you that I don't love to toot my own horn, but, the truth is, I'm a tooter. Sometimes you simply have to take matters into your own hands! A solo performance isn't a bad thing once in a while, but it is nothing like when everyone picks up an instrument and starts playing in your personal symphony.
